COVID-19

Steps We Are Taking

Please Read Before Your Appointment

Appointments

  • We are not able to accept walk-in patients. If you would like to make an appointment, please call the office: Salmon Arm (250) 832-2202; Sorrento (250) 675-4116.
  • Prior to your appointment, you will be asked to fill out our COVID-19 questionnaire. If there are any concerning results, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment after a required 14- day self-quarantine period.

Visits

  • If you are feeling unwell on the day of your appointment, please call the office to cancel. A short notice cancellation fee will not be charged when cancelling due to COVID-19 like symptoms or possible exposure.
  • Please arrive on time (not early or late). We have scheduled appointments between patients in a staggered fashion to allow for social distancing. If you arrive more than five minutes late, we will need to reschedule your appointment.
  • Please wear a mask. If you do not have one, we will provide one. Please note, there is a Canada wide shortage of surgical masks, so please try to bring your own.
  • We will take your temperature. If it is greater than 38 degrees Celsius, we will ask you to leave, and you will not be able to return until after the 14-day self-quarantine requirement.
  • We will ask you questions to assess your risk of COVID-19. If there are any concerning results, you will be asked to leave and not return until after the 14-day self-quarantine requirement.
  • Only the patient being treated can stay for the appointment. Exceptions will be made for caregivers and parents as required. Please note that anyone staying will have their temperature taken and will be asked the COVID-19 risk assessment questionnaire.
  • In the operatory, each patient will be asked to rinse their mouth with a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution prior to their dental procedure.
  • We are trying to complete more dental work per appointment (longer visits) to reduce the number of return visits.
  • If possible, we would prefer electronic payment (credit card, debit).

Office

  • To improve social distancing between staff members and to reduce the number of patients being treated in a specific office on a given day, we are working out of the Salmon Arm office Mondays to Fridays and out of the Sorrento office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Only the hygienists will be working out of the Salmon Arm office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dr. Low will be working some Fridays.
  • We no longer have furniture in our waiting rooms. Once you arrive, you will be escorted directly to the operatory.
  • Plexiglass has been installed at our front desks.
  • Although the patient washrooms are available, we are kindly asking all our patients to try to limit their use as they are cleaned after each use.
  • Our office has always had a strict cleaning protocol regarding our operatories, dental equipment, and instruments. We have broadened this practice to other high touch areas of the office (debit machine, door handles, etc.) under the guidance of the BC Centre For Disease Control.
  • The number of patients that we treat in a day has been reduced to allow for social distancing, patient screening, and enhanced cleaning protocols.
  • We have introduced new equipment to reduce splatter and aerosols both during dental and cleaning procedures.
  • All staff members have their temperatures taken daily and are asked the same health questionnaire that is required of our patients. If anyone has a disqualifying result, they are sent home.
  • All staff will be wearing additional enhanced personal protective equipment for the duration of the pandemic.
